May 2010
ContiTech Beattie Ltd, the market leader in hose technology for the oil and gas industry, will compete for a total of seven gongs in this year's Manufacturing Excellence Awards, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMECHE).
A world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of flexible hose assemblies and associated hardware to the oil and gas sector, ContiTech Beattie is now a veteran of these awards, consistently improving its performance.
In 2008, the company won the business development and change management award, was highly commended in the people development category and shortlisted for the manufacturing process innovation award.
In 2009, ContiTech Beattie was shortlisted for five awards and listed as finalist in three, winning the financial management award.
This year, the Ashington and Aberdeen-based firm has been selected as a finalist in seven award categories, following a challenging assessment process, including an external assessors site visit:
Business development and change management
Customer focus
Process innovation
Logistics and resource efficiency
People effectiveness
Integrated e-business
Financial management
Originally formed in 1960 as Beattie Hydraulics Limited, a manufacturer of carbon steel hydraulic hose fittings, the firm rebranded from Phoenix Beattie Limited to ContiTech Beattie Limited in 2008 and now employs 97 people, including 82 in Ashington and 14 in Aberdeen. The business has increased its turnover from £16m in 2004 to £28.5m, winning a Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade in recognition of its significant growth in export sales over the last three years.
Andrew Esson, managing director of ContiTech Beattie, said: “We are really proud that ContiTech Beattie has once again outdone its previous performance in the prestigious Manufacturing Excellence Awards. We continue to strive to improve what we do, and to be selected as a finalist in so many categories is an excellent reflection of the broad-based capabilities of our business”
