Training and Guidelines

Training:

Phoenix Beattie Limited’s training programme is based upon over 45 years experience in the flexible hose business. All training conforms to Personnel Competency requirements of the UKOOA Guidelines (Phoenix Beattie Ltd played a major part in writing the UKOOA Guidelines). The programme covers both theoretical and practical elements and on completion client’s engineers will be competent to carry out 3 monthly or 1 st line inspection, will have knowledge regarding the effects of losing integrity of the liner or outer cover, correct installation recognising aspects such as over bending, non flexible length criteria etc.

About UKOOA:

The guidelines are co-sponsored by The Health and Safety Executive and the Institute of Petroleum.

The purpose of these guidelines is to provide operators of Offshore Installations, Drilling Facilities and Onshore Plants with a reference framework of management, technical controls and procedures necessary to ensure the continued integrity of flexible hose assemblies throughout their lifecycle.

It is the responsibility of the Asset Owner in the offshore sector or the Duty Holder of an onshore installation to ensure that the maintenance and integrity management requirements of these guidelines are developed and implemented within the engineering design, construction, operations, maintenance and inspection process and other relevant management systems. The responsibilities include personnel competency assurance, the development, implementation and review of maintenance strategies and controls, the correct execution of the work and the appointment of responsible personnel.

The integrity of flexible FHA’s is very dependent on the correct selection of hose product and adherence to the installation procedures. Personnel competency is therefore a key issue and should be considered at all stages of the life cycle.
